A US Navy vessel operating in the Red Sea on October 19, 2023, successfully intercepted and destroyed missiles and drones launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen, potentially targeting Israel, according to the Pentagon.

In a coordinated action, the United States and Britain conducted a series of air strikes on the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, the Amran governorate, and other regions, as reported by Al Masirah TV, the primary news channel affiliated with the Houthi movement. Houthi media sources and local residents confirmed that approximately nine strikes targeted Sanaa, its surrounding areas, and the Amran governorate.

Since November of the previous year, Houthi militants have been conducting attacks on international shipping lanes near Yemen, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. These actions have prompted retaliatory strikes from the US and Britain, causing significant disruptions to global trade. As a result, ship operators have been forced to reroute vessels away from the Red Sea and Suez Canal, opting for the longer voyage around the southern tip of Africa.
