2024 marks a relatively quiet year for Marvel, at least in terms of cinematic releases. With the exception of the highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, Marvel Studios has taken a step back from the big screen. However, this doesn't hold true for Sony's Spider-Man universe. The year kicked off with Madame Web linking various storylines and will conclude with Kraven The Hunter delivering intense action. In between, Tom Hardy's final appearance as Eddie Brock is set to wrap up the Venom saga with Venom: The Last Dance, aiming to bring closure to the non-Spider-Man yet Spider-Man-adjacent trilogy. The film promises a climactic chapter that heralds a symbiote apocalypse. Check out the full trailer here:
The trailer offers a wealth of insights, from the Venom-horse (we're leaning towards 'neigh') to a 'Nightmare At 20,000 Feet' plane-monster gag, and a clearer view of the overall plot. Notably, several other symbiotes are heading to Earth with malicious intentions, posing a significant threat to Eddie and Venom. The mention of 'Knull' evokes a particular sense of dread; in the comics, he is essentially the symbiote God. This sets the stage for a potential 'Venom: Ragnarok' endgame, with the trailer hinting at emotional depth and pathos in the conclusion of Eddie's alien-goo adventures.
Venom: The Last Dance is written and directed by Kelly Marcel, marking her directorial debut after penning the scripts for Venom and its sequel, Let There Be Carnage. Tom Hardy returns alongside a cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham. Will the film provide a satisfying conclusion to the Venom-verse? Time will tell. Will it feature appearances from Madame Web, Morbius, or even Kraven? Stay tuned. And could it be a Venom film that... tugs at the heartstrings? Probably not, but we'll find out when the film hits UK cinemas on 25 October.
