Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20 Internationals on Saturday, shortly following India's victory over South Africa in the World Cup final. India secured the 2024 T20 World Cup title with a seven-run win in the final, with Indian bowlers successfully defending 177 runs after Kohli's impressive 76 off 59 balls.
Kohli, who was awarded player of the match, declared this his final T20 game for India after their victory at Kensington Oval. He emphasized the need for the next generation to advance the T20 format. Shortly after Kohli's statement, Rohit also announced his departure from T20 internationals.
Rohit clarified that he will continue to play for India in Test and ODI formats but is stepping back from the shortest format of the game.
