Almost two decades have passed since the release of Virtua Fighter 5, but as Sega hinted last month, a new sequel is in the works. At The Game Awards, Sega unveiled the first teaser for Virtua Fighter 6. The publisher also announced that additional details will be shared during a Virtua Fighter Direct following The Game Awards.

Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios is taking the reins of the franchise as it enters a new era on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The original Virtua Fighter made its debut in arcades in 1993, revolutionizing 3D fighting games and setting the stage for titles like Tekken.

The previous installment, Virtua Fighter 5, was initially released in 2006 and has since been remastered multiple times, most recently in 2021 as Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. Another remastered version, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., was announced just last month.

The upcoming Virtua Fighter Direct is expected to provide more insights into the release date of Virtua Fighter 6 and reveal which characters will be featured in the game.
