Essentially a crossover version of the Golf, the T-Roc is not sold in the United States. This isn't a major loss since the U.S. market already has a surplus of SUVs, including the slightly larger Taos. What sets the T-Roc apart from most other high-riding models is its convertible variant. Yes, a crossover with an electrically folding fabric top will be available in 2024. According to sales data from Dataforce, cited by Automotive News Europe, the VW T-Roc Cabriolet is the best-selling mainstream convertible this year. Despite its unusual nature, this two-door model leads the sales charts as of June. In the first half of the year, 6,110 units were sold, which is 22.7 percent lower than in H1 2023, but still enough to secure the top position. The iconic Mazda Miata had to settle for second place, with 3,545 cars sold, a decline of 15 percent, possibly due to the transition from the ND2 to the ND3 model. The numbers might improve in the second half of 2024, but with the discontinuation of the 2.0-liter engine in Europe, the outlook is uncertain. The Alpine A110, despite being a fixed-roof sports car, managed to secure third place due to Dataforce combining sales of mainstream convertibles with coupes. In the first half of 2024, 2,563 units were sold, a significant increase of 47.6 percent. Although the T-Roc was the best-selling convertible, it ranked second overall. The Mini, listed in the premium segment, was the most popular cabrio in Europe, selling 11,140 units, a decrease of 11.6 percent compared to the previous year. The Porsche 911 finished second among luxury convertibles, with sales rising by 5.1 percent to 5,784 vehicles. The BMW 4 Series Convertible followed in third place, with 4,714 units sold, a decline of 21.7 percent. The regular T-Roc led the small SUV/crossover segment, with Volkswagen delivering 105,332 units, a modest increase of 1.7 percent. The company has confirmed plans for a second-generation model, which might be its last new combustion engine car for the European market. A convertible reminiscent of the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet seems highly unlikely.
