The latest update for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has officially introduced a new Operation and enemy type, but it seems an unfinished feature, the Research Centre, has also made its way into Saber Interactive's grimdark shooter. Discovered by players on Reddit, a new Thousand Sons emblem has been found in the game's Heraldry Editor, which indicates it can be unlocked by completing challenges in the Research Centre. By pressing a button, players can access the Research Centre's UI screen directly.

While the exact purpose of this unannounced feature remains unclear, it appears that players will be able to unlock models for various factions in Space Marine 2, including the Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Tyranids, and Thousand Sons, using a new form of currency. Unlocking these models seems to grant cosmetic rewards, such as the currently available Thousand Sons emblem. Additionally, players might be able to examine these models in greater detail, making them a new type of collectable.

The method for earning this new currency in the Research Centre is still unknown, but Saber Interactive's roadmap for Space Marine 2 hints at a "Battle Barge expansion" as part of the game's third season in 2025. This expansion will also include a new Operation, a new PvP mode, Prestige ranks, and more. The Research Centre could potentially be the Battle Barge expansion, but fans will have to wait for an official announcement from Saber Interactive to learn more.

In addition to new content, Update 5 for Space Marine 2 has banned the use of mods in public matches to ensure server stability. For those looking for more Space Marine 2 content, an episode of Amazon's video game anthology series Secret Level, which is now available, serves as a sequel to the game's story.

In other Warhammer 40K news, Amazon and Games Workshop, the owner of the Warhammer IP, have finalized creative guidelines for Warhammer 40K TV shows and films after a year-long negotiation. The first project under this partnership is now moving into full development, according to Games Workshop.
