World of Warcraft is commemorating its 20th anniversary in various ways, and it appears that one of these will be an upcoming Mountain Dew Game Fuel promotion that promises exclusive in-game items for players. Although the promotion has not been officially announced, images shared on Reddit over the weekend (some of which have since been deleted) indicate that Game Fuel's Citrus Blackberry and Citrus Cherry flavors will soon feature iconic WoW characters.
The Citrus Cherry flavor will showcase former Horde Warchief Thrall and the Lich King, while the Citrus Blackberry packaging will highlight the relatively newer villain, Xal'atath, and the elven hero Alleria Windrunner. Purchasing certain Mountain Dew products will allow players to earn points that can be redeemed on the Mountain Dew Gaming Rewards marketplace.
Currently, there are no WoW items available for redemption (though you can purchase some Final Fantasy 14 items or an Elder Scrolls Online mount in the meantime), but fansite Wowhead has uncovered some clues about what might be coming. Two datamined in-game motorcycle mounts seem to match the Game Fuel colors, and their flavor text mentions the bikes being "demonically fueled."
The exact nature of other rewards remains unknown, but an official announcement is expected soon. This isn't the first time WoW and Game Fuel have collaborated. In 2009, Mountain Dew offered two limited-time Game Fuel flavors: Citrus Cherry (the original Game Fuel flavor that launched in 2007 alongside Halo 3) for the Horde and a new flavor, Wild Fruit, for the Alliance.
This Mountain Dew crossover is just one of the many ways Blizzard is celebrating WoW's 20th anniversary. Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 have both featured WoW crossover skins, and WoW's next patch, releasing October 22, is fully dedicated to the anniversary. The extensive anniversary update will reintroduce old raids and dungeons and offer players the chance to earn updated versions of the game's iconic Tier 2 raid gear.
