Schools from Poland, Italy, India, and Argentina emerged victorious at the World's Best School Prizes on Thursday for their remarkable achievements, including support for refugee children, anti-bullying campaigns, and pollution-fighting projects. The five winning schools shared a $50,000 prize, awarded by T4 Education, a global network for educators, which launched the prizes in 2022. The First Ukrainian School in Poland, supported by the Unbreakable Ukraine Foundation, won the Overcoming Adversity prize for its specialized education and support for refugee children integrating into a new country. Initially established as a charity school in March 2022, shortly after President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian forces into Ukraine, it now operates three branches with 1,500 children in the Polish cities of Warsaw, Krakow, and Wroclaw. Istituto Galilei-Costa-Scarambone in Lecce, Italy, won the Supporting Healthy Lives prize for its student-led anti-bullying initiative, “Mabasta” (stop it), which also emphasizes mental well-being.
