The latest Xbox update brings back friend requests, enhances search capabilities, and introduces more personalization options for profile pictures and home screens.
With this update, you can only become friends with someone if both parties accept each other's invitations. Following someone remains a one-way connection, keeping you updated on the content they share with followers. Existing connections will automatically update, so you won't need to make any changes to maintain your current friends and followers list. However, if you wish to manage your connections, you can press the Xbox button on your controller, select the People tab, and view your friends list, accept or delete requests, and search for new friends.
Privacy and relationship-notification settings have also been improved. The new search function, according to Microsoft, offers higher accuracy, understanding typos, shortcuts, synonyms, and even emoji. These search improvements are now available on both console and the Windows Xbox app.
On the console, you have more freedom to customize your profile. You can create gamerpics from achievement art or your screenshots, and you can zoom in and crop images when setting your home background. The Windows Xbox app has also been revamped, allowing you to quickly resume your gaming sessions with the 'jump back in experience,' even from compact mode. The Xbox Accessories app has received a free update, enabling you to calibrate thumbsticks and triggers, map mouse inputs, and more on your Elite or Elite 2 Controller.
In other Xbox news, a new ad campaign highlights the brand's offerings on mobile and smart TVs. Xbox is reportedly working on a handheld prototype, though it may be several years before it is released.
