Xenoblade Chronicles X stands as one of the last major Nintendo titles still confined to the Wii U. Adding to the frustration, it remains the sole installment in the cherished Monolith Soft RPG series not available on the Switch. However, this is set to change with the upcoming release of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition on March 20, 2025. Similar to the enhanced edition of the first game for the Switch, this remaster boasts revamped graphics and various quality-of-life enhancements. The physical edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is currently available for preorder at GameStop for $60. We will keep this preorder guide updated once it becomes available at Best Buy and Target, but don't anticipate seeing it listed on Amazon or Walmart until the launch date. Neither retailer has been offering preorders for Nintendo Switch exclusives in recent months.

Set in the year 2054, the game chronicles a small group of humans escaping their ruined Earth and crash-landing on the enigmatic planet of Mira. Players are tasked with helping humanity recover, and the narrative is as intricate as those in other Xenoblade Chronicles games. There's no prerequisite to have played any other Xenoblade titles before diving into this standalone story. Our original review of Xenoblade Chronicles X awarded it an impressive 8/10, praising its breathtaking landscapes, intricate combat mechanics, and satisfying character development. Although out of print for years, Prima's Xenoblade Chronicles X Collector's Edition Guide remains a valuable resource. Used copies of the 512-page hardcover guidebook can be found on Amazon for $51 and above.

Nintendo has released five Amiibo figures based on Xenoblade Chronicles characters. Three of these figures are currently available at their retail price. Shulk, the protagonist of the first Xenoblade Chronicles, is available at Target for $16. A two-pack featuring Noah and Mio from Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is in stock at Amazon and GameStop for $40. The remaining two characters, Pyra and Mythra, are not currently available at retail price, so you'll need to pay a premium for the two-pack if you aim to collect all five Xenoblade Amiibo.

While not mandatory, all RPG enthusiasts with a Nintendo Switch should consider playing the mainline Xenoblade Chronicles series. Xenoblade is arguably the best RPG series on the Switch and possibly the best trilogy overall. It's advisable to start with Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, the updated Switch version of the 2010 Wii game. The latest entry, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, is also available at a slight discount. Additionally, the second and third games in the series have substantial expansions that are worth experiencing. Finding physical US versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 can be challenging, but the UK version is readily available on Amazon and functions well across all regions. However, you'll need a European eShop account or a physical copy of Torna Country, the game's excellent expansion, to fully experience the story.
