Video games are crafted by teams of dozens, if not hundreds, of individuals, meaning every element of a game typically undergoes multiple revisions before reaching the public. Occasionally, it takes an external perspective to spot the obvious. This was the case with the battle menu for the upcoming 'Yakuza: Like a Dragon,' and the outcome is quite entertaining.
In June, John Ricciardi—co-founder of renowned localization company 8-4—playfully suggested on Twitter that translators should alter the battle menu of the eighth 'Yakuza' game to spell 'SEGA.' As a recent behind-the-scenes video unveiled, it seems the localization team heeded Ricciardi's suggestion.
As seen in the tweets above, the 'More' option has been changed to 'Etc.,' effectively spelling out the name of the game's publisher. This subtle tweak aligns well with the series' playful, self-aware tone.
For long-time fans of the series, 'Yakuza: Like a Dragon' represents a soft reboot, introducing turn-based combat for the first time. The game initially launched in Japan in January, with the English version set for a November release. It will debut as a launch title for the Xbox Series X, with a PS5 version slated for a later date.
