Seven years ago, composer Yasuaki Iwata etched his name into Nintendo's history with the captivating score for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, co-written with Manaka Kataoka and Hajime Wakai. However, Iwata has now disclosed that his tenure at Nintendo has concluded.

In a message shared on his X account, Iwata announced that he departed Nintendo in July 2023. He expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and the players who appreciated his work over the years. Furthermore, Iwata mentioned that he has been engaged in new endeavors since leaving Nintendo, though he refrained from detailing what these projects entail.

Yasuaki Iwata joined Nintendo in 2013 and contributed to a diverse array of titles during his decade-long association with the company. He composed the opening theme for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and other musical pieces for the game. His first credit with Nintendo was for Super Mario 3D World, and he subsequently provided music for Mario Kart 8, Arms, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Nevertheless, the music from Breath of the Wild may stand as his most enduring legacy at Nintendo.

Any video game publisher would consider themselves fortunate to have Iwata on their team, but he did not specify whether his next venture is related to gaming or if he is pursuing a solo project outside the gaming industry.
