Bahrain's Winfred Yavi clinched the women's Olympic 3000m steeplechase title in Paris on Tuesday, setting a new Olympic record of 8min 52.76sec. Yavi, originally from Kenya, secured her victory ahead of Uganda's Peruth Chemutai, the defending champion, who earned silver with a national record time of 8:53.34. Kenya's Faith Cherotich rounded out the podium with a bronze finish in 8:55.15.
In the women's hammer throw at the Paris Olympics, world champion Camryn Rogers ensured a Canadian sweep by winning gold. Rogers' winning throw measured 76.97 meters, following her teammate Ethan Katzberg's victory in the men's hammer just two days prior. US champion Annette Echikunwoke took silver with a throw of 75.48m, and China's Jie Zhao secured bronze with the same distance. Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk, a three-time Olympic champion in the discipline, finished fourth with a season's best throw of 74.23m.
