YouTube Playables titles are no longer confined to solo experiences. Google has announced that it is testing multiplayer functionality for the free games library, accessible on the YouTube website or app.
Initially, YouTube is exploring real-time multiplayer with two Playables titles: Ludo Club and Magic Tile 3. Ludo Club, reminiscent of the Sorry board game, allows up to three other players from around the globe to join. The game also features basic chat options, such as sending an angry emoji or a simple 'Hello.' This new feature is compatible with both browsers and mobile devices, and Google hints at more updates for Playables in the future.
It has been over a year since YouTube introduced Playables to select users in September 2023. Earlier this year, YouTube officially launched the Playables games library, offering over 75 titles for users to enjoy. No downloads are necessary to play games like Angry Birds Showdown, Cut the Rope, and Gin Rummy. YouTube automatically saves your progress, so you can resume any game from where you left off.
This isn't Google's first venture into gaming. In early 2023, Google Stadia was officially discontinued after an ambitious attempt as a cloud-gaming service. Prior to that, Google closed down game studios it had started and acquired to support Stadia.
