Japanese Formula One driver Yuki Tsunoda recounted an unusual experience at the United States border, where he was questioned for several hours in his pyjamas before being allowed entry for the Las Vegas Grand Prix this weekend.

The RB driver shared with reporters on Wednesday that he had faced no such issues during his previous visits to the US for races in Austin and Miami this year. "Fortunately, they allowed me to enter after some back-and-forth," he said. "Actually, it was quite a lengthy discussion... I almost got sent back home."

Tsunoda explained that he was traveling with his physio but had to go through immigration alone and was subsequently taken to a room for questioning, despite having all the necessary paperwork. "I had done all the visa procedures... I entered smoothly at the previous track [Circuit of the Americas]," he noted. "It felt odd to be stopped and questioned. Thankfully, it didn't last more than two or three hours. This isn't our first time here this year. I heard various things, but hopefully, everything will go smoothly in the future."

The Las Vegas GP follows a three-week break after a race in Brazil, and Tsunoda had arrived ahead of his team for a promotional event. "I was in my pyjamas, so maybe I didn't look like an F1 driver," the 24-year-old added.
