The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) has unveiled plans to operate 10 new speech therapy centres across six governorates in the Arab Republic of Egypt, enhancing support for 643 young men and women with disabilities. The initiative targets individuals with autism spectrum disorders, speech delays, hyperactivity, attention deficits, learning challenges, and behavioral issues, aiming to enhance their skills and capabilities.
This project not only focuses on skill development but also extends support to families and guardians through awareness programs designed to equip them with better strategies for managing their children's needs. A dedicated team of social workers and speech therapists will conduct workshops to identify and address learning obstacles and challenges, providing specialized training to overcome these issues. Furthermore, psychological and social support programs will be introduced to bolster their efforts.
The new centres, located in Qalyubia, Dakahlia, Monufia, Qena, Sohag, and New Valley, are equipped with state-of-the-art tools for speech therapy, behavioral modification, skill development, and psychological assessments. Recruitment for specialist roles in these centres has been finalized, with plans to establish 30 such centres by the end of 2024.
This expansion is part of a broader cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and ZHO, under the 'Bridges of Hope Holding' program supported by ADQ in Abu Dhabi. The program aims to enhance 60 Ministry-run speech therapy centres and provide internet services, along with establishing a medical convoy to offer urgent care to people of determination and their families. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, praised the collaborative efforts of ZHO and ADQ, emphasizing their commitment to providing free services to integrate children with disabilities into society and ensure a dignified life for them. Abdullah Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of ZHO, highlighted the strategic importance of these centres in fostering comprehensive care and therapeutic support for beneficiaries across various Egyptian governorates.
