Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed on Monday that he is not apprehensive about the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the presidency in the United States, even though there are signs that a Trump administration might be more favorable to the Kremlin. A win for Trump in the November US elections could cast doubt on Washington's ongoing support for Ukraine, which is in its third year of combat against Russian forces.

"I believe that if Donald Trump becomes president, we will collaborate. I am not concerned about this," Zelensky stated during a press conference in Kyiv. The Republican candidate has proposed that he could swiftly conclude the conflict if he regains the presidency, a scenario that Kyiv worries would compel it to negotiate with Moscow from a position of weakness.

Zelensky mentioned that during his recent visit to the US for a NATO defense summit, he met with Republican governors and received assurances of the party's support. "There are those who are more right-wing or radical in their messages," Zelensky informed the press. "However, I want to emphasize that the majority of the Republican Party stands with Ukraine and its people," he continued.

Trump had previously declared during a debate with President Joe Biden that if elected, he would resolve the Ukraine conflict before his inauguration in January 2025.
