Zindagi, the producers of the series Barzakh, are removing the show, which stars acclaimed Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, from YouTube Pakistan amid ongoing disputes about its content. In a recent Instagram announcement, Zindagi stated that due to the prevailing public opinion in Pakistan, Barzakh will be taken down from YouTube Pakistan as of August 9, 2024. A post from ZINDAGI (@zindagiofficial) read, “We at Zindagi and Team Barzakh deeply thank our worldwide audience for their steadfast support of Barzakh—a series intended to unite people globally. However, considering the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have chosen to voluntarily remove Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024. This move reflects our commitment to respecting our audience without causing division. We truly value your comprehension and ongoing support.”
Barzakh, a six-episode series produced by Waqas Hassan and Shailja Kejriwal for Zindagi, is directed by the highly regarded Asim Abbasi. Abbasi is celebrated for directing Zindagi’s inaugural Pakistani original, Churails, and the film Cake, which represented Pakistan in the 2019 Oscars. Set in the scenic Hunza Valley, the series revolves around a 76-year-old man who invites his estranged family to his secluded resort for his marriage to the spirit of his first love. The storyline delves into themes of life’s enigmas, the afterlife, and the lasting power of love, while also tackling issues such as mental health, postpartum depression, generational trauma, and gender inclusivity.
