Abu Dhabi is set to generate over 20,000 jobs in the life science sector within the next ten years, according to a high-ranking official.
"By 2035, Abu Dhabi is anticipated to contribute more than Dh100 billion to its GDP and create over 20,000 jobs in the life science sector," stated Mansoor Al Mansoori, a member of The Abu Dhabi Executive Council and chairman of the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, during his keynote speech at Abu Dhabi Finance Week on Monday.
Life science encompasses the study of living organisms and their processes, including microorganisms, plants, animals, and humans. This field is divided into four primary branches: biology, anatomy, astrobiology, and biotechnology, with numerous other sub-branches.
Al Mansoori added that in 2024, 25% more companies localized their operations in the capital's life science cluster, conducting over 180 clinical studies.
"For us, health is wealth. A healthy population guarantees societal well-being and drives economic growth. Our goal is to establish the most intelligent and efficient system, providing personalized and preventive care to promote a healthy lifestyle among our population," he explained, emphasizing the three pillars of a healthy population, best-in-class service, and cutting-edge technology to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
"This represents a shift from a reactive system to a proactive approach, where we predict, prevent, and act through personalized interventions. This uniqueness makes the health sector in Abu Dhabi stand out. We have developed the most comprehensive data, including genome and lifestyle information, integrated from various disciplines, creating a digital twin of our population," he said during his keynote address.
He further detailed that the UAE capital is finalizing the world's largest genome project, alongside the most comprehensive reference genome. Pioneering clinical applications, such as personalized cardiovascular screening or cancer medication tailored to an individual's genetic profile, are being developed.
"Abu Dhabi not only delivers results but also fosters lasting partnerships that shape industries and enhance life. For visionaries, Abu Dhabi is the place where ideas rapidly transform into reality," Al Mansoori concluded during the opening day of the four-day forum.
