Bangladesh is on track to secure a 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan, as the pace bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana restricted the hosts to 172 in the second innings of the second Test on Monday.

In pursuit of 185 runs for victory, Bangladesh reached 42 without loss after seven overs, but the game was halted early due to bad light and rain at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Zakir Hasan remained undefeated on 31, hitting two sixes, while Shadman Islam scored nine, leaving Bangladesh needing 143 more runs to win. Earlier, Hasan (5-43) and Nahid (4-44) dominated with the ball as Pakistan resumed at nine for two. Taskin Ahmed dismissed Saim Ayub (20), and Nahid then took three wickets in three overs, including Shan Masood (28) and Babar Azam (11), whose run drought continued.

Mohammad Rizwan (43) survived a dropped catch and was hit in the helmet by a bouncer from Nahid, who bowled at a fast pace. Rizwan then fought back, but Hasan struck twice after lunch, dismissing Rizwan and Mohammad Ali consecutively, also taking the wicket of Abrar Ahmed. Salman Agha scored 47 not out, but Hasan ended with a five-wicket haul in his third Test, removing Mir Hamza. Bangladesh won the first Test by 10 wickets on August 25, marking their first Test victory against Pakistan.
