Blizzard is currently seeking talent for an upcoming, unannounced open-world shooter game. A job posting dated November 13th unveiled this information, although the requisition provides limited details about the game itself.

The job listing for the Associate Design Director, Innovation specifies that the successful candidate will serve as the 'vision holder and owner of key strategic innovations' for this unannounced open-world shooter. The role requires implementing strategies that have demonstrated potential but have yet to make an impact in the AAA gaming space. The chosen candidate will collaborate with Blizzard's engineering, art, and audio teams to steer the project from inception to launch. This phrasing indicates that the game might still be in its early stages of development.

According to the job listing (as reported by VGC), the successful applicant can anticipate a minimum annual salary of $124,400, with the possibility of earning up to $230,300. This job ad was posted just this week, but journalist Jason Schreier's recent book, 'Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment,' includes a passage suggesting that a StarCraft shooter was, or is, in development at Blizzard. It remains unclear whether this new job posting is related to that project.

The rumored StarCraft shooter was reportedly led by Dan Hay, a former Ubisoft and Far Cry veteran who joined Blizzard as vice president and general manager in 2022. Given Blizzard's iterative approach to game development, where approximately 50% of projects are canceled, the new shooter in development is not guaranteed to see release. Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that Blizzard had scrapped its survival game, codenamed Odyssey, with some staff members transitioning to an incubation project that was rumored to be a StarCraft shooter.
