Bollywood actor R Madhavan has expressed deep outrage and despair over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, which has shocked the nation. The tragic incident took place on August 9, when the post-graduate trainee doctor was discovered dead in a seminar hall at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Madhavan shared a heartfelt note on his social media, questioning the necessary steps to deter such crimes. "If the #Nirbhaya case did not bring about change and this brutality persists, what severe measures must be implemented to instill fear in the perpetrators? My sympathies are with the victim's family, for no words or actions can alleviate their lifelong pain," he wrote.

Actors Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan have also expressed their distress over the incident. Kapoor Khan emphasized the persistent issue of violence against women on Instagram, "12 years on; the same narrative; the same protests. Yet, we await change." Bhatt echoed similar concerns, highlighting the ongoing threats to women's safety and the slow progress since the Nirbhaya incident. "Another brutal rape. Another day realizing women are unsafe everywhere. Another atrocity reminding us that over a decade has passed since Nirbhaya, yet little has changed," she posted.

Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma also addressed the heinous crime on her Instagram Stories: “What’s your excuse this time or is it her fault, because men will be men, right?” Several other Bollywood celebrities including Twinkle Khanna, Kangana Ranaut, Soni Razdan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, and Preity Zinta have demanded justice for the victim.
