According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, breast cancer ranks as the second most prevalent cancer globally and is the leading cancer among women. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, prompting various hospitals to launch campaigns aimed at screening and raising awareness about the disease.
For instance, the Iranian Hospital in Dubai will provide free specialist consultations, a 40% discount on mammography, and a 20% reduction on genetic testing for breast cancer from October 27 to 31. Meanwhile, Emirates Hospitals Jumeirah and Emirates Specialty Hospital are offering their Mammogram Screening Package for AED 250 throughout October. This package includes a consultation with a doctor and a mammogram.
Breastcancer.org reports that in 2024, approximately 310,720 women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, with 16% of these cases occurring in women under the age of 50. Additionally, 56,500 women will be diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). The American Cancer Society emphasizes the importance of early detection, noting that when breast cancer is caught early and remains localized, the five-year relative survival rate is an impressive 99%.
