The Carabao Cup third-round match between AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle, scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed due to 'extensive overnight flooding' at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. Photographs reveal a severely damaged corner of the pitch, with the surface appearing distorted following heavy rainfall in south-west London. The walkways surrounding the stadium were also inundated with water. The stadium is currently closed, and a new date for the fixture has not yet been announced.

'We regret to inform supporters that due to extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas, including at our Cherry Red Records Stadium, Tuesday night's Carabao Cup third-round fixture against Newcastle United has been postponed,' stated a Wimbledon official statement. 'More information will be provided in due course regarding the rearrangement of the fixture. The stadium is closed until further notice.'

Wimbledon advanced to the third round with a surprising penalty shootout victory over Premier League team Ipswich. Newcastle also secured their progression through a penalty shootout win against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The fourth round of the Carabao Cup is set to take place during the week commencing 28 October.
