Developer Freehold Games has announced that Caves of Qud, a roguelike open-world RPG, will be leaving early access and officially launching as version 1.0 today, December 5, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. The game first entered early access on Steam on July 15, 2015, but Freehold Games revealed that development actually began 15 years ago.
The 1.0 release of Caves of Qud includes the Dromad deluxe edition, a tutorial, and the final story quest with multiple endings. The Dromad deluxe edition features new enhancements such as an improved soundtrack and the Pets of Harvest Dawn DLC pack, which grants players access to in-game pets from the start. Existing owners of Caves of Qud can purchase the soundtrack and DLC pack separately.
Unfortunately, save files from before version 1.0 will not be compatible with the full release. However, players can continue using their old saves on the 208.x legacy branch, which can be accessed via the Betas menu in Steam. Caves of Qud will be priced at $30, but there is a 15% launch discount available until December 12. To celebrate the launch, Freehold Games is hosting a speedrunning contest for streamers today, with Caves of Qud prize packs up for grabs for those who can complete the game the fastest.
Freehold Games also mentioned that they plan to continue supporting Caves of Qud with post-launch content after the 1.0 release, with more details to be shared in a future update.
