A Singaporean businesswoman based in Dubai is making efforts to assist those affected by the conflict in Gaza. Jean Winter, the founder and CEO of Touch Dubai, an inclusive talent management agency, recently visited Egypt to aid displaced Gazans. She has been providing them with essential support such as rent and food, mentoring women with business ideas, and creating online job opportunities for impoverished Gazans in Egypt. Her Egyptian friend Fatima, who resides in Dubai, hosted her and has been assisting her in connecting with local communities.
During her stay, Jean encountered several families who were struggling to secure basic necessities. She recounted meeting a family of six who lacked even the funds to purchase detergent for cleaning their empty accommodation. Jean furnished their home with essential items and a kitchen stove, ensuring they had a month's supply of food before she departed. Additionally, as a CSR consultant and philanthropist, Jean has hired three individuals from Gaza to support her ongoing relief efforts.
Jean aims to establish sustainable support systems rather than creating dependencies. She has employed three siblings from Gaza, Nour, Hashem, and Ali, to work remotely for her company in Egypt. Their roles include monitoring the families she has assisted and expanding her aid network. Jean has also formed partnerships to ensure a steady supply of clean water to Gaza, addressing the inflated costs and lack of transparency in water donations.
Despite the challenges, Jean remains committed to her humanitarian efforts, having previously supported communities in crisis around the world. She emphasizes the importance of thorough research for potential donors to ensure their contributions effectively reach those in need.
