A week before schools reopen on August 26, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday the completion of traffic enhancements at four crucial spots within the Al Safa 1 Schools Complex. According to Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, these improvements are anticipated to boost traffic flow and cut travel time by 20 percent. The enhancements encompass the expansion of entry and exit points and the implementation of traffic calming measures such as traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
The traffic improvements were executed at four distinct sites. A 255-meter lane was added to the service road for vehicles moving from the Sheikh Zayed Road junction with Al Hadiqa Road (second junction) towards the roundabout leading to Street 13. This is expected to enhance traffic flow and decrease travel time to the Al Safa 1 Schools Complex by 20 percent. Additionally, 22 parallel parking spaces were established near Al Safa School and Al Ittihad School to alleviate congestion during peak hours and streamline traffic during student pick-up and drop-off times.
The exit leading to Al Wasl Street from Street 19 was expanded by adding a 330-meter-long lane and reducing the number of left-turn lanes to one. Improvements were also made to the traffic signal at the intersection with Al Wasl Street, and 18 parking spaces were added opposite Jumeirah College. An additional U-turn exit was created on Al Wasl Street, along with the installation of a traffic signal and a pedestrian crossing. Al Shehhi noted that these latest enhancements in Al Safa 1 are designed to benefit all road users, including service providers from the business community, students, and approximately 60,000 residents of the neighborhood.
RTA remains committed to enhancing the efficiency of Dubai's road network in line with the city’s development goals and the needs of road users. These initiatives are focused on ensuring smooth traffic flow and improving safety standards across Dubai’s roads.
