A Dubai-based social enterprise is aiming to enhance inclusion practices in schools by introducing the first-ever awards for practitioners across the nation. Incluzun is offering a prize of Dh15,000 to the top head of inclusion and the best learning support assistant in the UAE.

"These awards aim to highlight the commitment, passion, and innovation of those who work diligently to ensure that all students receive quality education, irrespective of their learning challenges," stated Dr. Catherine O'Farrell, one of the founding partners of Incluzun. "These individuals significantly impact our children's lives by enabling them to access education. Many parents face difficulties in finding schools that accept their children. With the support of inclusive practitioners, this can change."

The nomination process for these awards will close on Friday, September 27. Interested parties can nominate a practitioner for free on the Incluzun website. The awards are open to all educational institutions and suppliers within the UAE. The nominee must be recommended by someone in the field of special education, such as a colleague, administrator, or parent, and should be a full-time, licensed professional with at least three years of experience.

The winners will be chosen based on the impact and effectiveness of the nominees' efforts in fostering an inclusive educational environment. Nominees should exhibit innovative practices, exceptional leadership, and a dedication to promoting an inclusive school culture that aligns with the objectives of the National Policy to Empower People of Determination.

The winners will be selected by a panel of judges and will be honored at a ceremony held at the Dubai World Trade Center during the Accessibilities Expo on October 8. Sponsored by the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination and held under the Authority of Social Contribution Ma’an, the awards include cash prizes, hotel stays, and flight tickets.

In a statement, the ZHO expressed its "delight and honor" to sponsor these inaugural awards, emphasizing its commitment to fulfilling social responsibilities and supporting the empowerment of people of determination. "The award highlights the crucial and active role of the private sector and non-profit organizations in achieving sustainable development and social welfare for all," the statement read.

According to Dr. Catherine, the award aligns with the broader goals of the National Policy to Empower People of Determination, announced in 2017. This policy aims to create a supportive environment that promotes equal opportunities for individuals with special needs. "Education is central to this mission, recognizing that fostering an inclusive mindset from a young age is essential for lasting change," she said. "By recognizing these exceptional individuals, we move closer to realizing the UAE's vision of a society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, has the chance to succeed. Together, we can build a more inclusive future for all."

Dr. Catherine also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support received for this initiative. Several leading brands, including Siemens Energy, Etihad, MAF, and Rotana, have stepped forward to support the awards.
