Emirates is currently amidst one of its most hectic periods, anticipating the arrival of more than 900 children who are set to return to Dubai in the upcoming week. These children are concluding their summer vacations overseas and are returning just in time for the commencement of the academic year, utilizing the airline's Unaccompanied Minors Service. This service ensures a monitored and secure journey for children aged 5 to 11 from check-in to their destination. Conversely, children aged 12 to 15 may travel independently without the service, subject to parental or guardian approval. The service is predominantly utilized by British families, followed by Indian, American, Filipino, and French families. Over the last five years, over 120,000 children have availed themselves of Emirates' Unaccompanied Minors and Young Passenger services, with the majority being 11 years old or younger.

The process begins when parents or guardians escort their young travelers to the Unaccompanied Minors Lounge near the check-in area at Dubai International Airport (DXB). The accompanying parent or guardian must present identification and sign a permission form. Upon verification of the guardian's identity, the children are checked in and can enjoy amenities such as video games, free WiFi, and comfortable seating. They also have access to complimentary refreshments in a dedicated, private, and supervised area.

For children requiring connecting flights within DXB on Emirates, the maximum allowed connection time is 8 hours. Extended connection times require approval from the airline. During layovers, children are escorted to an Unaccompanied Minors Lounge to rest and await their next flight, where they are handed over to the cabin crew. If meals are needed during the layover, a specialist from the airline accompanies them. Overnight stays at the connecting airport are not permitted for young passengers unless an adult guardian is arranged to meet and care for them, subject to Emirates' approval.
