Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, is set to introduce its renowned Airbus A380 on flights to Mumbai for a special four-month deployment, commemorating 20 years since its first flight to the city. Starting from 1 September until 31 December 2024, the double-decker aircraft will facilitate three weekly flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Mumbai (BOM). Currently, Etihad provides direct services between Abu Dhabi and 11 cities in India, with intentions to expand further. To mark this special occasion, Etihad is offering A380-themed fare specials, including first class return tickets priced at Dh8,380 from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai and Rs190,383 (approximately Dh8329) from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi. Business class return fares are available at Dh2,380 from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai and Rs50,381 (around Dh2,200) from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi, valid until 25 August for travel between 1 September and 13 October.
Recently, Etihad became the first international airline in India to launch a Hindi website, enhancing accessibility for customers in their preferred language. Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, expressed excitement about the A380’s introduction on the Mumbai route, stating, “To celebrate 20 years of service to Mumbai and India, we are excited to deploy our A380 on this route. Although this aircraft is usually reserved for long-haul flights, for our 20-year anniversary, we will operate the A380 three times a week for four months.” Economy passengers can enjoy extra legroom with Economy Extra Legroom seats and enhanced comfort with fixed-wing headrests and large pillows on Economy Smart Seats. The Business Studios on the upper deck offer 70 private suites with Wi-Fi and a lobby lounge area. The First Apartments include nine private suites with tableware and an ottoman that transforms into a bed, along with personalized amenities and access to an exclusive shower room.
Etihad’s connections to India extend beyond flights, with sponsorship of Chennai Super Kings and a brand ambassador partnership with Bollywood star Katrina Kaif. By early 2025, Etihad Airways plans to have its sixth A380 in operation.
