Commuters in Ras Al Khaimah will enjoy free rides on city buses on November 26 as part of an initiative to promote public transport usage. The Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) announced on Monday that city buses will offer free rides to celebrate Green Mobility Week.
RAKTA has initiated Green Mobility Week starting from November 25, aiming to foster sustainable mobility. This week-long campaign is designed to educate the public about eco-friendly transportation options and showcase RAKTA’s innovative solutions, aligning with Ras Al Khaimah's Green Mobility Strategy 2023-2040 for environmental and developmental sustainability.
During this week, RAKTA has designated a free public transport day on city buses, urging both residents and visitors to opt for public transportation. This move highlights the environmental and social advantages of using public transport. The week will include a series of workshops and exhibitions featuring the latest in eco-friendly transport solutions, such as electric vehicles, smart booking services, and public transport projects. These activities underscore the importance of shared mobility in alleviating traffic congestion and reducing energy consumption, thereby supporting long-term sustainability objectives.
“The launch of Green Mobility Week underscores our dedication to creating sustainable and integrated transport solutions that enhance quality of life and protect the environment. It acts as a foundation for increasing community awareness about the significance of the smart and sustainable transport solutions provided by RAKTA, in line with Ras Al Khaimah’s vision for transitioning to a green economy,” stated Eng Esmaeel Hasan AlBlooshi, Director General of RAKTA.
Through Green Mobility Week, RAKTA aims to boost public awareness of the necessity of adopting sustainable transport solutions by introducing initiatives such as electric and hybrid taxis and transitioning to clean energy. Public bus transport within the emirate is organized into four routes:
Red Line: Al Nakeel to Al Jazirah Al Hamra || Al Jazirah Al Hamra to Al Nakeel
Blue Line: Al Nakeel to Sha’am area || Sha’am area to Al Nakeel
Green Line: Al Nakeel to RAK Airport || RAK Airport to Al Nakeel
Purple Line: AURAK to Manar Mall || Manar Mall to AURAK
Normally, riders pay a Dh8 fare for each trip. However, on November 26, the service will be free.
