A German doctor is facing criminal charges for the alleged murder of four elderly patients under his palliative care and for attempting to set fire to their flats to destroy evidence, according to Berlin prosecutors on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old physician, employed by an outpatient nursing care service, is accused of killing the patients, aged between 72 and 94, in June and July. The method of these killings has not yet been determined, as stated in a recent announcement. Despite his unsuccessful attempts to ignite fires in Berlin flats, some of his actions did result in the involvement of fire brigades to extinguish the flames. The police have not disclosed the identity of the suspect.
