During a recent investor call for Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two, it was confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is on track for a Fall 2025 release. A new report suggests that rival gaming publishers are cautiously monitoring the situation, anticipating a possible delay into 2026. According to Bloomberg, game publishers with titles scheduled for Fall 2025 are holding off on finalizing their release dates, as they prefer not to compete directly with GTA 6.
Despite this, Ubisoft has previously stated that it is not intimidated by releasing games near GTA titles, believing that a major release like GTA 6 is beneficial for the industry. Rockstar has a history of delaying its AAA titles, dating back to 2007. Games like Grand Theft Auto 4, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all experienced shifts from their original release windows. The Bloomberg report highlights that GTA 6 has already missed several deadlines before being confirmed for 2025, suggesting that another delay would not be unprecedented.
The report also indicates that Rockstar is requesting its writers to be more considerate towards transgender people and other minorities. Earlier this year, Take-Two expressed that the exact release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 is less critical, given the enduring success of GTA 5, which has sold over 205 million copies since its 2013 launch. The anticipation for the sequel has intensified since the first trailer for GTA 6 was released over a year ago. The extended gap between GTA 5 and GTA 6 has even inspired a parody game, whose authenticity remains uncertain.
