In the midst of the intense heat, hail has returned to offer respite to residents of the UAE. Experts have observed that the country is familiar with the phenomenon of 'summer rain.' However, while some regions are experiencing rain and hail, others are facing dust storms. Watch a video shared by Storm Centre, showing a dust storm in Al Madam, a town in Sharjah.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), heavy rainfall has been reported in Maleha, Khadairah, and Fili in Sharjah, among other areas. The weather department has advised residents to exercise caution due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong downward winds associated with hail in some eastern areas. Residents have been cautioned about potential microbursts, reduced visibility, and have been urged to avoid areas prone to flash floods.
Hail, not exclusive to winter in the UAE, has been observed several times in the past few months during the peak of summer. Watch a video shared by Storm Centre on X showing hail in Khadairah.
An orange alert has been issued for thunder rain, dust or sand, and wind, warning of convective cloud formation and fresh to strong winds from 3:05 PM to 8 PM on Saturday, August 24. The UAE experiences monsoon low pressure from India, resulting in summer rains. In a previous interview with Khaleej Times, a weather department expert stated that rain typically lasts until September 23.
Earlier, the National Centre of Meteorology also issued a yellow alert from 1:15 PM to 8 PM on Saturday. The alert was issued for rainfall and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 45 km/h in some eastern and southern areas.
