Halsey has expressed profound regret regarding her return to the music scene after releasing her new single, Lucky. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer recently took to Tumblr to address the harsh criticism she has received from some fans, revealing its impact on her.
"My own fans are, without a doubt, meaner to me than anyone else on the planet," Halsey wrote in a detailed message. She further explained her emotions, stating, "Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were terrible to me, and now it seems like a majority have only stayed to occasionally voice their opinion on how much they dislike me or how terrible I am. It's challenging to want to engage in a space that lacks any kindness, sympathy, patience, or even basic human decency."
Halsey, who has been dealing with significant health issues in recent years, expressed her disappointment with the current dynamics of her fan interactions. "When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could return and be part of THIS again, but I don't even know what 'this' is anymore, and I want to crawl into a hole and regret coming back," she confessed on the social media platform, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The criticism surfaced following the release of Lucky on July 26, which features an interpolation of Britney Spears' 2000 hit of the same name. The music video, directed by Gia Coppola, delves into the darker aspects of fame and pays tribute to Spears' original video. Halsey had previously assured fans that Spears was involved in the project, stating, "Yes, of course! I wouldn't even dream of doing it without her blessing!" Despite this, the response has not been entirely positive.
The new single is anticipated to be part of Halsey's upcoming fifth studio album. This release comes after her public battle with severe health issues, including a diagnosis of Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Halsey has disclosed that these conditions are currently being managed or are in remission, thanks to the support of her medical team.
