India's navy announced on Wednesday that one of its warships had successfully rescued nine out of the 16 crew members from an oil tanker that capsized off the coast of Oman earlier this week.

The Comorian-flagged MV Prestige Falcon, carrying 13 Indian and three Sri Lankan nationals, overturned and sank in the Arabian Sea late Monday night. Indian warship INS Teg was redirected from its operations in the area to aid in a search and rescue operation, which was complicated by rough seas and strong winds, according to a navy statement.

Under challenging weather conditions, the vessel managed to rescue eight Indians and one Sri Lankan. The tanker was en route to the Yemeni port city of Aden, as reported by shipping website marinetraffic.com. Oman's Maritime Security Centre did not provide details on the cause of the capsize.
