India's premier budget airline, IndiGo, revealed on Monday the launch of business-class facilities, a first in its history. This announcement coincides with the airline's 18th anniversary, signifying a notable enhancement to its services. IndiGo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, stated, "As of tomorrow, travelers journeying between major cities will be able to reserve business class seats on IndiGo flights." Although reservations will commence immediately, the business class service will only be operational starting November. This initiative marks a significant shift for IndiGo, known for its economical, basic services. The addition of a business class could draw a new demographic of passengers looking for extra comfort and ease on domestic flights. IndiGo also announced the operation of wide-body aircraft on its anniversary, with plans to initiate IndiGo wide-body services using Airbus 350-900 planes by 2027. Presently, IndiGo manages over 400 routes, encompassing 34 international locations. The CEO additionally outlined plans for further growth, with seven new international routes slated to begin soon, bolstering the airline's international footprint. This strategic decision to introduce business class and broaden its international reach demonstrates IndiGo's intent to serve a wider audience while boosting its competitiveness in the aviation sector.
