The Israeli military announced on Sunday that five soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, raising the total number of soldier fatalities to 37 since ground operations began on September 30. The army stated in a release that the soldiers "died during combat in southern Lebanon," noting that their deaths occurred on Saturday. Hezbollah initiated rocket attacks on Israel on October 8, 2023, in solidarity with Hamas following the Palestinian militant group's unprecedented assault on Israel the day before. Israel significantly intensified its air strikes on Lebanon last month before commencing ground operations in southern Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in at least 1,615 fatalities in Lebanon since September 23, according to an AFP count based on official figures, though the actual number is likely higher due to incomplete data.
