Jennifer Garner recently shared some heartfelt marriage advice from her mother, Patricia, during an episode of the 'Lipstick on the Rim' podcast. The 'Alias' star, now 52, revealed her favorite quote, which she credited to her mother: 'Never expect a man — don’t marry a man thinking you can change him.' Garner admitted she needed 'to work on that one,' possibly hinting at her past relationships.
Garner has been married twice: first to 'Felicity' actor Scott Foley and then to Oscar winner Ben Affleck. She continued to share more 'vintage Pat Garner' sayings, noting they often came from sources like 'Little House on the Prairie' or 'Anne of Green Gables.' These included quotes such as, 'Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning' and 'Happiness is your own responsibility.'
Garner's first marriage to Foley lasted from 2000 to 2004. She later reflected that they 'would probably still be together' if they hadn't led a 'fast-lane life.' Her second marriage to Affleck, which began in 2005, ended in 2018 after a separation announcement in 2015. Despite calling Affleck a 'complicated guy' in a 2016 Vanity Fair interview, Garner has maintained a close relationship with her ex for the sake of their three children: Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
The former couple even spent Thanksgiving together, handing out food to the homeless in Los Angeles. Affleck, who is currently in the midst of a divorce from Jennifer Lopez, seemed to be in good spirits during the event. Lopez, on the other hand, shared a smiling photo after spending time with her ex, expressing gratitude for her fans on Thanksgiving.
Lopez, who has been married four times, including to Affleck, recently spoke about her split from him, stating she has no desire to return to the dating world. She emphasized her excitement about being on her own, reflecting on her past experiences and challenges.
