Horror enthusiasts, get ready for some thrilling news! Following the exciting announcement this morning that McKenna Grace has joined the cast of Scream VII, tonight brings another eagerly anticipated casting confirmation for a reboot of a classic horror franchise — specifically, Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer. According to Deadline, original star Jennifer Love Hewitt has finalized a deal to return for the upcoming film, which Robinson co-wrote with Sam Lansky.

Hewitt, who played Julie James and was last seen being pursued by the hook-wielding Ben Willis (Muse Watson) at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, will be joined by her on-screen husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., who was previously confirmed to reprise his role as Ray Bronson. In true legacyquel fashion, the original cast will be joined by a fresh group of rising stars, including Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Little Mermaid breakout Jonah Hauer-King.

While the roles of the new cast members remain undisclosed, along with the sequel's plot, it's safe to assume that someone will uncover a dark secret from the past, leading to a series of deadly encounters. With new installments in the Final Destination and Scary Movie franchises in development, and successful reboots of Scream, Saw, Halloween, and Evil Dead in recent years, the timing couldn't be better for the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise to return. With this director, this cast, and a release date of 18 July 2025, fans know exactly what they'll be looking forward to next summer!
