A New York state judge has temporarily halted proceedings in President-elect Donald Trump's criminal case, which involves charges related to hush money paid to a porn star. This development was revealed in a document made public on Tuesday.

Judge Juan Merchan was initially scheduled to decide by Tuesday whether Trump's conviction could be overturned due to the Supreme Court's July ruling on presidential immunity. Additionally, Trump was set to be sentenced on November 26.

Prosecutors from the Manhattan District Attorney's office, led by Alvin Bragg, sent an email to Judge Merchan on Sunday, requesting a pause in the proceedings. This request was made in light of Trump's recent election victory on November 5 and his upcoming inauguration in January 2025. The prosecutors noted that Trump had also sought the delay.

In their email, the prosecutors acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the situation, stating, "The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances." As a result, Judge Merchan has paused all proceedings in the case until November 19.
