The Jurassic franchise has undergone various transformations over the years. From Spielberg's iconic original Jurassic Park to The Lost World and Jurassic Park III, the series has continually evolved. In 2015, the Jurassic World trilogy commenced, introducing a fully operational dinosaur theme park before unleashing prehistoric creatures upon the world. Now, Jurassic is set to be reborn—quite literally—with Jurassic World Rebirth poised to make its mark. This time, Godzilla and Monsters director Gareth Edwards brings his expertise with scaly beasts to the table, working from a script by original Park writer David Koepp. The aim is to return the saga to its roots.
"It harkens back to what I loved about the original," Edwards tells Empire in their Andor Season 2 issue, "with an abundance of different set-piece scenarios and tense, fun action moments. There were numerous opportunities for filmmakers to have a lot of fun and play with the audience." Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the film continues the premise of dinosaurs in the wild established across that trilogy, while also beginning "a new chapter in the Jurassic timeline."
While the film will be packed with prehistoric beasts ("certain dinosaurs must be included to do justice to cinema," Edwards notes), the new human lead is Scarlett Johansson. Her character, operative Zora Bennett, is on an epic quest to find dinosaur DNA. "She's seeking meaning in her life after leaving the military," Edwards teases about her role, "and this opportunity arises where, essentially, she'd never have to work again. But through this journey, she begins to question the ethical implications of their actions." Prepare for a classic Jurassic experience.
