Former One Direction singer Liam Payne's tragic fall from a balcony in Buenos Aires was reportedly captured on CCTV, according to Argentinian media. The footage, which has not been made public, allegedly shows the singer fainting on a third-floor balcony before falling. Paula Varela, an Argentinian broadcast journalist, disclosed on Socios del Espectaculo, a show on Buenos Aires-based TV station Canal 13, that the footage depicts Liam losing consciousness prior to the fatal fall.
"There is footage that is not being released to the media showing the balcony scene where Liam faints and, tragically, falls from the balcony. If he had been near his bed, he would have fallen onto it," Varela stated. "It's not that he jumped deliberately. This footage is part of the official case files."
Varela also reported that a night worker at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, who had a good relationship with Payne, is under investigation for allegedly supplying the singer with drugs believed to have contributed to his death on October 16. "There's a young man being investigated, a night worker at the hotel. He's 20 and had a strong relationship with Liam. He's from Lomas de Zamora on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, but we won't reveal his name," Varela said.
The worker disobeyed a hotel management order not to take anything into Liam's room. Due to his good relationship with Liam, he arranged a car through a taxi app at Liam's request, a favor that led to his investigation. Authorities are examining what was transferred in that vehicle. The hotel worker, a cherished staff member, has been suspended for disobeying an order that could have been fatal.
A toxicology report revealed traces of pink cocaine, a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA, as well as cocaine and benzodiazepine in Payne's system. Police also found an improvised aluminum pipe used to smoke crack cocaine in his suite. The English pop star, 31, died instantly from multiple injuries after falling nearly 14 meters from the balcony onto a concrete pathway below.
The horrifying moment was reportedly captured on CCTV, with authorities keeping the footage confidential as investigations continue. Prosecutors believe Payne was in a state of "semi or total unconsciousness" during a substance-induced 'psychotic episode' when he fell. Alberto Crescenti, chief of the state emergency medical system, confirmed Payne fell into an internal courtyard. "A few minutes later, an emergency team arrived and confirmed the death of this man, who we later learned was from a musical group. He had injuries incompatible with life as a result of his fall," Crescenti said.
