Hopeful fans of Metroid Prime 4 might have cause for celebration. Nintendo has included the title on the official Metroid home page, indicating that players will be able to "embark on a new mission coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025." The update to the Metroid site was initially noticed on Reddit by a user named Vasishath. This has fueled speculation that more information could be forthcoming. Given that Metroid Prime 4 is likely to be one of the last AAA games for the Switch, anticipation is high, especially since Nintendo's unannounced Switch successor is also expected in 2025. Fortunately, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with Switch games.
The Metroid series follows bounty hunter Samus Aran on her galactic adventures, with Metroid Prime being the franchise's first foray into first-person shooting in 2002 on the GameCube. Last year saw the release of a remastered version of Metroid Prime, while the most recent game in the series, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, debuted on the Wii in 2007. Nintendo announced Metroid Prime 4 a decade later at E3 2017. However, two years later, Nintendo disclosed that the game was being entirely redeveloped by Retro Studios, the creators of the Metroid Prime trilogy. It took another five years for Nintendo to release the first teaser trailer for the game, confirming its title as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. While details about the sequel's story remain scarce, we've revisited everything that's happened in the Metroid Prime games so far. Fans will just have to wait until next year to discover what lies ahead for Samus in her next adventure.
