After a viral post implied that the 61-year-old athlete had endorsed Donald Trump, Jordan's representatives quickly refuted the claim. In a statement to The Independent, they asserted: “There is absolutely no truth to the claim that Michael Jordan has made an endorsement in the presidential election.” The misleading post, which surfaced two days prior, inaccurately suggested that the six-time NBA champion had “become the latest to endorse Donald Trump for President.”
Jordan, known for his private nature and reluctance to disclose his political affiliations, stands in contrast to another NBA icon, LeBron James. James, 39, recently endorsed Kamala Harris, expressing his clear choice in a social media post: “What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!” His post also featured a video juxtaposing racist remarks by Trump and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, concluding with the caption: “Hate takes us back.”
Numerous sports celebrities have openly supported Harris in this closely contested election, including NBA greats Magic Johnson and Steph Curry. This isn't the first instance of a fabricated endorsement affecting Trump's campaign. In August, Trump shared AI-generated images falsely indicating Taylor Swift's support for his candidacy. Swift later addressed this in her endorsement of Harris, emphasizing the dangers of AI and misinformation, stating, “The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
