Following distressing reports of sexual misconduct within the Malayalam film industry, renowned actor and ex-president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, Mohanlal, has finally spoken out. Local media sources report that Mohanlal expressed his support for the state government's move to publish the Justice Hema Committee's findings. He also clarified that he is not affiliated with any 'power groups' and is unaware of their existence. Post the release of the report, both Mohanlal and other leaders from AMMA stepped down, taking moral responsibility for the association's inability to tackle the issue effectively. The Justice Hema Committee, established in 2019 in response to the 2017 assault case involving actor Dileep, reveals widespread sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, with many women detailing incidents of unwelcome behavior, intimidation, and threats on set. The committee additionally highlighted that women are often deprived of fundamental human rights like proper access to toilets and changing facilities on set. During outdoor shoots, women frequently resort to changing in secluded areas without access to water or basic amenities.
