Napoli's Scott McTominay scored after just 25 seconds, with Romelu Lukaku and David Neres also finding the net, as they defeated visitors Como 3-1 on Friday, extending their lead at the top of Serie A.
Antonio Conte's Napoli now top the table with 16 points from seven matches, four points clear of Juventus, who are set to host Cagliari on Sunday. McTominay opened the scoring by firing the ball into the net off a post from inside the box, following a pass from Lukaku. Como had their chances too, with Nico Paz hitting a powerful long-range shot that struck the inside of a post before deflecting away.
They equalized through Gabriel Strefezza's low, long-range strike that found the bottom left corner two minutes before halftime. Lukaku restored Napoli's lead from the penalty spot eight minutes into the second half after Sergi Roberto fouled Mathias Olivera. Neres sealed the victory in the 86th minute by converting a one-on-one chance after latching onto a through ball from Lukaku.
Lukaku, who has been working to regain match fitness since joining the club in late August, delivered an impressive performance with one goal and two assists. "I arrived late, but I'm already integrated, all thanks to my teammates, the technical staff, and the fans. We have to continue like this, we've won again," Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia. "Now we all go to the national team and then those of us who remain here will continue to work and prepare for the next games."
Lukaku, who has three goals and four assists in five matches for Napoli, acknowledged that the game was not without its flaws. "We also had moments in which, on the counterattack, we could have done better, but we have to review these situations to improve in the future," he said.
Elsewhere, a late own goal by Jesse Joronen gave Verona a 2-1 victory over Venezia. Gaetano Oristanio put Venezia ahead in the second minute with a header from a corner kick. The home side equalized seven minutes later through Casper Tengstedt's volley. Verona secured the win when Grigoris Kastanos' header was deflected into his own net by goalkeeper Joronen.
Newly-promoted Leganés drew 0-0 at home to Valencia, extending their winless La Liga streak to seven matches. The two sides have combined for only 10 goals this season, with little goalmouth action in a poor game. There were no shots on target in the first half, and Leganés' closest attempt came when Oscar's shot ricocheted off the post.
Marseille missed the chance to join Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1 after being held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Angers. The match was marred by first-half red cards for both teams. Marseille took the lead six minutes into the second half through substitute Jonathan Rowe, but Farid El Melali equalized for Angers with a beautiful free kick after 54 minutes.
