Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday morning (local time) to commence his three-day visit to the United States. Prior to his departure from India, PM Modi expressed in his departure statement that he eagerly anticipated joining his counterparts — President Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the Quad Summit. The Prime Minister highlighted that his meeting with President Biden would enable both nations to assess and chart new courses for deepening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Just before the Quad summit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden.
Following this, the PM's itinerary includes the annual Quad summit, set to take place in Wilmington, Delaware, President Biden's hometown. The Sixth Quad summit unites India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, with a shared pledge to act as a force for global good and to uphold an open, free, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region that is both prosperous and resilient. This summit is particularly significant for India as it will be hosting the next Quad Leaders' Summit. The previous Quad Leaders' Summit, the fifth edition, was held in Hiroshima, Japan on May 20 last year.
On September 22, PM Modi will address a community event for the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. Approximately 4.4 million Indian Americans or persons of Indian origin reside in the US, with the latter constituting the third largest Asian ethnic group in the country. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will participate in a Business Roundtable with CEOs of prominent US companies operating in cutting-edge sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology. From Wilmington, the Prime Minister will proceed to New York to attend the Summit of the Future (SOTF) at the United Nations on September 23.
