Rayhan Thomas from Dubai showcased his prowess and consistency to secure a place in the final stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School at Fontanals Golf Club, one of the four Stage 2 venues, on Sunday. Rayhan delivered impressive rounds of 69, 67, 68, and 67 to finish at 13-under par in the competitive 72-hole Stage 2 Qualifying School event in Spain. This achievement marks a crucial step in his quest for a spot on the DP World Tour, as he continues to advance his professional golf career.
"It was a tough grind on the front nine. I wasn't doing anything particularly special," Rayhan told Khaleej Times. "On the back nine, I played really well – everything came together, I hit the ball well, and the putts fell. I did everything I needed to do." His immediate feelings were a mix of happiness and relief, as securing a DP World Tour card would be a dream come true. Rayhan will now head directly to Tarragona, expressing excitement about the challenges ahead. "It looks like a lot of golf, but I'll be ready," he said.
Over the four days, Rayhan managed an impressive 21 birdies on the 7,119 yards par 71 Fontanals Golf Club course. The qualifying score was set at 10 under par, with 25 players progressing to the Final Stage Qualifying. Co-medalists at Fontanals were Jakub Hrinda (Slovakia) and Haydn Barron (Australia), both finishing on 18 under par. A total of 57 players finished under par out of a field of 75, with no cut applied.
The leading 23 players and ties at Fontanals Golf Club, adjusted to reflect the number of players across the four qualifying venues, will advance to the Final Stage of the DP World Tour Qualifying School at Infinitum Golf, Tarragona, Spain, from November 8th to 13th, 2024. The Final Stage will be played over six rounds on two courses, with a field of 156 players. The top 20 players and ties will earn full status and playing privileges on the 2025 DP World Tour season, which is five cards fewer than in 2023.
