Rimac is set to construct a track-exclusive hypercar featuring a singular, centralized seating arrangement, as confirmed by CEO Mate Rimac in an interview with Motor1 on Friday. "We've now chosen to extend our boundaries beyond road vehicles and into track racing," Rimac informed Motor1. "We're developing a track-specific, single-occupant vehicle that will outpace any racing car on most circuits. It will be swifter than Formula 1 cars, swifter than those at Le Mans."
This marks a significant shift for the Croatian high-performance brand, which has previously focused on producing two-seater electric cars for road use. Rimac further revealed that the car will feature a closed-canopy cockpit and will not be derived from the Nevera but will instead be built on a unique platform. "We might unveil it this year and conduct the initial track tests next year," Rimac shared with Motor1.
In response to whether Rimac intends to initiate a spec series with the vehicle, Mate stated that the company aims to establish new records first. The CEO assured Motor1 that the single-seater will be exclusively for track use, with no plans for road-legal versions. However, it will not adhere to any pre-existing regulations. "Safety measures are in place, but beyond that? No set rules," Rimac explained. "It will surpass the regulations of Formula 1 or LMP."
This announcement comes shortly after the brand showcased its newest model, the Nevera R. A more refined iteration of the all-electric hypercar, the Nevera R boasts 2,107 horsepower, with a claimed acceleration from 0-60 mph in 1.74 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 8.23 seconds, and a top speed of 256 mph. One can only speculate how much faster it could be without the limitations imposed by road-legal requirements. Jeff Perez contributed to this report.
